The British company Mclaren has recalled supercars over fire complaints. The company issued a statement regarding the matter asking customers to send their Mclarens back to dealerships for safety reasons. According to the company around 2,800 cars are being recalled including prestigious models such as the Mclaren Senna, 720S, and more.

The vehicles sold between 2016 and 2020 are affected by the decision. The 2017 to 2019 model 570GT and the 2020 GT have also been affected. According to confirmed reports, the fire issue arises because of foam padding that is placed underneath the fuel tank. This foam absorbs water and then that corrodes the fuel tank. The tank leaks gas and then that ultimately leads to a fire. The company adds the foam pad to minimize road noise and maintain cabin purity.

Mclaren realized the danger caused by the foam when two of their vehicles came in with the same issue. They made a judgment call to protect their customers as well as their reputation by calling back all relevant vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in America, Mclaren has vowed to replace the foam as well as the corroded fuel tank free of cost.

All the other Mclaren vehicles that do not have foam padding have not been recalled. The 720S is the most hardly hit by the decision. But in terms of reputation, the million-dollar Mclaren Senna, which is named after the famed Formula One driver Aryton Senna, has been hit the hardest. The Senna is a limited edition car with only 500 units being made and sold. The manufacturers paid special attention to the idea of a street-legal car that could perform on the track. The Senna is built for speed and it looks the part.

The entire car has been built with carbon-fiber to minimize weight and a hungry engine sleeps inside. Once awakened, the roaring 4.0-liter dual-turbo V8 engine makes 789 hp with 590 lbs of torque and goes from naught to sixty in just 2.8 seconds. Top speed stands at 211 mph. McLaren has gone a step further and imagined a track-only Senna that is called the Senna GTR. This car will have even more downforce than before and also more horsepower. The British marque planned to build 75 of these and all of them were sold in record time.

The company is yet to send a formal notice to their customers but we expect that to happen soon.
