The 2020 Tesla Model Y will strike the roads soon. Tesla’s management announced in the results of the 4th quarter of this year that the Model Y production will start at the end of March. However, in light, in the coronavirus pandemic many companies have halted production. The car which was due to be released in March is now facing delays. It would be difficult to determine when factories open and production restarts but it is due to happen soon.
The world economy has been hit pretty badly by the pandemic crisis. Businesses have been closed, the stock market has crashed and unemployment has risen to levels higher than they were at the time of the Great Depression. In these testing times, Tesla hopes to keep its spirits high and meet its customer demand to the fullest.
The Model Y is offered in two variants, both of which are available as all-wheel drive. The vehicle makes use of the company’s highly efficient battery system that allows it to have a long-range. The base model begins for $52,990, while the Model Y Performance comes at $60,990.
EPA ratings suggest that the base model will give users a range of 315 miles. This is a better estimate given that Tesla first introduced the Model Y with 280 miles of range. It would not come as a surprise, if in the future; Tesla enhances the Model Y’s range even further with newer advancements in technology.
But for now, those who are looking for an even cheaper Model Y would have to wait. Tesla has plans to introduce an economically priced $41,000 model that would have an expected range of 230 miles. This car will reportedly go into production by the start of 2021. However, with the coronavirus pandemic and the already piled up orders of the company, this seems to be too far-fetched. We would have to wait and see what the company decides to do once the world economy stabilizes.
One of the first cars to come out of the main Tesla Factory in China will be Model Y. There also are plans to manufacture at a factory in Berlin Germany where demand for EV’s have increases over the past 5 years.
Some other reports say the range of the Model S and the Model X will also be significant improved. The company’s CEO has already mentioned the possibility of an 800 km (400 miles).
