The Chevrolet Bolt EUV could be the upcoming sensation in the electric car market. Recently, a would-be prototype of the vehicle was captured on a video. General Motors confirmed earlier this week that the vehicle will be called an Electric Utility Vehicle rather than an EV. It seems the company intends to add more models to the EUV line-up while separating EVs as a different category.
The prototype caught in the spy shots appears to resemble the current generation Bolt EV. However, the entire car is well hidden and we cannot make out any discerning features from it. The headlights and the covered grille show some resemblance which is the most we can get out of the video. The Bolt EUV will share the BEV2 platform with the Bolt EV and thus the cars are bound to look similar. This also means the Bolt EUV and the Bolt EV would have a similar motor and a battery range. It is estimated that the new car would have an approximate range of 259 miles and it might also have all-wheel drive functionality.
GM has even brighter plans for future EVs as the company plans to introduce a brand-new BEV3 platform. This platform will make it possible for future EVs to have a 400-mile plus range. That is a respectable range according to current standards. Two vehicles are already confirmed for the BEV3 platform with the GMC Hummer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq taking first mentions. Both these vehicles are under covers for now. They were due to be released in May but the reveal got delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. The company has been teasing enthusiasts with short videos just to keep the hype up until the vehicles are finally revealed. According to reports, a closed event is highly likely to take place in the coming months.
The Bolt EUV is still in its testing phases but that does not lose long. The vehicle will come out as a 2022 model with deliveries expected to start from mid-2021. It is not sure what the price of the Bolt EUV would be but we expect it to be around the price range of a Bolt EV. Keep in mind, though that the EUV will be a bit larger so expect it cost slightly higher than the Bolt EV. The current Bolt EV has a base price of $37,495, so you should expect the bolt EUV in the $40,000 – $45,000 range.
