When to change engine oil
When the engine works, a lot of friction is created. The oil is tasked at reducing this amount of friction by making the inside of an engine slippery. So when the pistons move up and down at high speeds, and the cams revolve the forces of friction are reduced as the oil warms up and does its job. However, after some time engine, the oil loses its working power and gets contaminated. This usually happens every 5,000 to 7,000 miles and that is when you should change your engine oil as well as the oil filter.
Extending the vehicles life
If engine oil is not changed regularly, the mechanical parts inside the engine start to wear out. The metal starts to erode and little metal shavings, as well as carbon, start to deposit in several places inside the engine. In the long term, this can cause problems. The small metal shavings and carbon deposits start to choke up different areas inside the engine and if not treated the life of the engine is considerably reduced. If you maintain your car regularly and change the engine oil every 3 months or 5,000 miles, you will never face this issue and your engine will stay dependable and run smoothly for a long time.
What oil to use?
There are various kinds of oils available in the market. But all the kinds can be summarized in three categories: conventional oil, semi-synthetic oil, and fully synthetic oil. Natural oil wears out a lot quicker than the other types but it is cheaper and that’s why people prefer it over the others. Semi-synthetic is a mixture of natural and synthetic oil and this lasts even longer. The best engine oil is fully synthetic because it lasts longer and keeps your engine safe. However, it is very expensive, which is why not many people prefer it whereas they should.
