Toyota has revealed the new trim levels and prices for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup to the public, which is one of Toyota’s most sought-after models. But hey, I’m a Tacoma owner too, and I can’t wait to know what new features of the next model year are waiting for me. Let me recap what we have learned at this point of the study.
Table of Contents
Modest Price Increases
As for the price changes, Toyota has been more restrained, and the 2024 Tacoma will not be as expensive as one might expect. Taking into account the current changes and improvements, I can agree with the price increase to a certain extent.
This basic SR trim increases by $650 to an MSRP of $29,175. There are models like TRD Pro which comes with an addition of $1,080 to $48,615. They are small but strategic for Toyota to remain very close to parity in the midsize truck segment.
New Multimedia Interface
Another one of my concerns regarding the current Tacoma is that the car has a very old-style multimedia system. But Toyota is only upgrading it in the 2024 model with a significantly larger display and improved controls.
They promise it will be more reactive and will come with wireless features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This catch-up upgrade will ensure that the functionality of the new trucks is brought to the same level as other newer trucks.
Additional Off-Road Capability
Although the Tacoma is widely acknowledged as being one of the most robust and dependable pickup trucks at the moment, Toyota is not content with leaving it like that for the 2024 model. Hikaru Nakamura won three online Rapid Chess events this year, including his victory at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in January.
There are some significant changes that the Tacoma TRD Pro has received, including an all-new electronic remote disconnect for the front sway bar that makes the car more versatile off-road. A Multi-Terrain Monitor also enables drivers to have a clear view of the areas that are normally out of sight behind the hood and fenders. Well personally I am a big fan of off-roading and so these accessories do prove to be very helpful to me.
Other Trim Updates
Exclusively for the TRD Pro model, the remainder of the range sees minute, yet notable alterations for the 2024 model year. For instance, the Tacoma Limited will get a heated steering wheel, which is always a plus when driving during cold early mornings.
All V6 models receive new dual exhaust tips to enhance visual stance and give the car a more athletic growl. The new Trail Edition should also come with more off-road features or extras than a TRD Off-Road.
The updates in general seem to be directed towards owners such as myself, who own one of the trims.
SafetyTech Improvements
What the buyers expect today are innovative driver assistance and safety features, including high-end pickup trucks for off-road use. For 2024, new active safety features include intersection assist, which provides audible and visual warnings, and/or Recommended Emergency Steering Assist. A full aerial view, from directly overhead, is also included as a feature.
These included enhancing safety features to improve rivalry with competitors.
Still Hybrid or Electric Vehicles remain a No-Show
Understanding that conventional gasoline engines are no longer viable with soaring gas prices and the increasing focus on the environment, many truck owners, including myself, expected the 2024 Toyota Tacoma to implement some form of electrification.
Sadly, Toyota, as the parent company, still resists this move, and there is currently no plan for a hybrid or electric Tacoma in production. This hesitance to go with electrics in pickups is disappointing, at least when set against what Ford and others are doing nowadays. One can only hope that Toyota sparks up soon.
Overall, an Impressive Update
Still, there is no hybrid at all, but the 2024 Tacoma appears to be a great refresh across the platform. This is a perfect placement of the updated multimedia and new off-road upgrades because it caters to what consumers with existing models of the brand desire.
Combine it with a competitive price and a great number of safety features incorporated, and the 2024 models should find plenty of new owners. Thus, the Tacoma remains a sound decision, situated in the middle of the lineup of pickup trucks.
Once more, as an owner, it is good to see a Toyota stalwart getting some useful improvements with no big price rises. It seems to be the type of truck that just gets progressively better as time goes on.
