How the Honda CR-V Hybrid Is Challenging the Regular CR-V

Honda CR V Hybrid

The 2022 Honda CR-V and the Honda CR-V Hybrid are two great Honda SUVs choices, and both offer a similar affordable driving experience. However, there are some minor differences between the two.

While these Honda SUVs share most of the features, in terms of power and fuel efficiency, the Hybrid is more advanced. The standard model has more storage space, though it may not be significant to most travelers. Below, we’ll take a look at each of these aspects, as well as others that will help users make an informed decision when trying to choose a model to purchase.

Power

The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid has 212 horsepower, while the standard Honda CR-V has 190. This has given the CR-V Hybrid an advantage in get-up-and-go.

The Honda CR-V Hybrid runs on a 2.0L Hybrid I-4 engine. That includes electric motors to improve overall horsepower and to provide seamless all-wheel drive. This allows it to claim the top ground clearance of 8.2 inches.

The standard CR-V uses a 1.5L Turbo I-4 engine. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive capabilities can be added to four trims. AWD is standard on the Limited. The regular ground clearance of 7.8 inches that raises to 8.2 inches with AWD.

Passenger and Storage Space

In terms of passenger space, the hybrid’s 102.9 cu.ft. is slightly less than the regular’s 105.9 cu-ft. However, most people won’t notice much of a difference.  In both, the second row has 40.4 inches of legroom. That’s almost as much as the front row, which offers 41.3 inches.

The Hybrid CR-V cargo area measures 33.2 cubic feet. That’s less than the 39.2 cubic feet in the standard CR-V. Either vehicle will provide a solid amount of space for traveling, but obviously, the regular SUV has the advantage here.

Fuel Efficiency

The Honda CR-V Hybrid is the better option in terms of fuel economy. It is expected to earn 40 miles per gallon for city travel and 35 miles per gallon for highway travel. The standard CR-V is not far behind, however. It earns 28 mpg in city travel and 34 mpg in highway travel.  With AWD, the regular SUV fuel economy drops a bit.

A comparison shows that the AWD hybrid saves $3,500 over five years, according to the U.S. Fuel Economy Calculator. The same website shows that the regular hybrid saves $1,250 over five years.  The potential savings drops to $750 over five years with the all-wheel drive CR-V.

Appearance

The standard CR-V comes in a variety of colors and boasts a sleek, modern look. It’s streamlined with sharp edges. The CR-V Hybrid has a slightly different wheel design and includes standard fog lamps. In addition, it has several badges on its exterior to establish itself as a hybrid vehicle.

Other Features

The CR-V Hybrid comes in a higher trim level than the entry-level CR-V. This means you get a more complete package. Standards include automatic climate control, heated front seats, and second-row charging ports for smartphones. It also has a one-touch power moonroof.

Final Verdict

Both the standard CR-V and the Hybrid CR-V are great options for any driver. It really comes down to cost. Really the only reason to stick with the regular CR-V is its incredibly big cargo hold.

If you can afford a higher trim level of the CR-V, you shouldn’t hesitate to claim the hybrid. You’ll get all-wheel drive, the higher ground clearance, the better package of features, and the money-saving fuel economy.  Best of all, the extra horsepower will make driving more fun.
